System Description
Pressure Hull:
Cylindrical in shape. Manufactured of A 212 B mild steel. 47 inches (1.17 m) in diameter and 107 inches (2.67 m) long.
Power Source: Twelve, two volt, lead-acid batteries located internally provide 24 v. Batteries equipped with catalyzing caps to eliminate hydrogen gas.
Maneuvering Control: One stern mounted, 3 h.p., main thruster with rotatable kortz nozzle. Lateral control via a .5 h.p. bow thruster. Bouyancy provided by two main soft tanks and two forward trim tanks for a total bouyant lift of 625 lbs.
Life Support: Oxygen tanks carried internally in three 40 c. ft. tanks. Carbon dioxide removed by absorbent scrubber. Emergency breathing gas via air BIBS.
Viewing: Six 4-inch conical viewports: 4 forward, 1 port, 1 starboard, provide main viewing. Four 2-inch conical viewports in conning tower.
Sonar One scanning sonar. Echo sounder. Hydrophone.
Manipulators:
One six-function manipulator, "Beaver" MK1 type. Hydraulic bow-mounted "A" frame provides platform for core samplers, cutters, and collection basket.
